Nail Gel Tips: The Revolution in Nail Building

Nail gel tips

In the world of professional manicures, efficiency and quality are two key factors for a business's success. Until recently, artificial nail building was mostly done with acrylic or gel, a process that requires skill, time and precision. However, innovation in the industry has given rise to Gel Tips, also known as "Soft Gel Tips" or "Gel Tips Press On", a modern, fast alternative that's revolutionising the manicure industry.

But don't worry, we're not talking about the plastic tips used in the past that were stuck on with glue. This system has been greatly improved, and these tips are now made of genuine gel, much more flexible and sophisticated, and are bonded to the nail with a special base. The result is a thinner nail that's above all more flexible, with less tendency to break.

If you run a nail salon or work as a nail technician, adding this service to your menu can make a big difference to your profitability and your clients' satisfaction. In this article, we explain what Gel Tips are, how they're applied and why you should consider this technique in your salon.

What are Gel Tips?

Gel Tips are pre-made, nail-shaped tips that are bonded directly onto the natural nail using a special base gel and cured under an LED/UV lamp. They differ from traditional tips in that they're made from a more flexible, resistant material that mimics the structure of the natural nail, giving a much more realistic look and greater comfort for the client.

Unlike acrylic or gel building, which requires manually applying product and extensive filing and sculpting, Gel Tips already have the perfect nail shape and only need to be bonded and refined with minimal filing.

What materials do you need to do Gel Tips?

Besides the basic manicure materials, such as a cuticle pusher, files, drill bits, primer, degreaser, etc., there are a few essential products for working correctly with Gel Tips.

  • Gel Tips: They come in different shapes and sizes to suit each client. Our recommendation.
  • Rubber Base: It's important that it's clear so it dries well and ensures a long-lasting application. Our recommendation.
  • LED or UV lamp: To properly cure the product and ensure a perfect set. Our recommendation.

How is the Gel Tips service carried out?

1. Preparing the natural nail

  • Remove any leftover polish or previous product.
  • Gently push back the cuticles with a metal pusher.
  • File the surface of the nail with a buffer to remove the natural shine.
  • Apply a Primer to improve the Gel Tip's adhesion.

2. Choosing the right Tip

  • Choose the Gel Tip that best fits the size and curve of each nail.
  • If needed, file the sides for a more precise fit.

3. Applying the Rubber Base

  • Use a clear Rubber Base to bond the Gel Tip to the nail.
  • Apply a layer on the inside of the tip and place it onto the natural nail.
  • Cure under an LED/UV lamp for 60 seconds.

4. Refining and finishing

  • Gently file the surface to remove the step at the cuticle area.
  • Apply colour or create a design according to the client's preference.
  • Finish with a Top Coat to seal and add shine.

Advantages of Gel Tips for your business

  • Time savings: Significantly reduces service time.
  • Easy application: No need to be a sculpting expert.
  • Fewer products and tools: Lower investment in materials.
  • More natural, resistant results: Greater durability and less tendency to break.
  • Greater profitability: Lets you serve more clients in less time.

Conclusion

Gel Tips are an innovation that's transforming the way nail technicians work. Their quick application, natural finish and great durability make them a must-have option for any beauty salon or nail centre.
