Eyelash lifting is a treatment for natural lashes that lifts them from the root and adds curvature and colour to the natural lash. It is one of the most requested services in beauty centres, especially during the summer season, because everyone wants to head to the beach or pool and show off “made-up” eyes full of life.
In this blog we're going to explain the 5 most common mistakes you must not make when performing the eyelash lifting service.
Mistake 1: Not preparing the natural lash correctly
A very common saying is that you can't start building a house from the roof. We're going to apply this saying in detail to this service. For the lifting result to be adequate and last at least 5-8 weeks, we must prepare the natural lash very well. To do this, you can't forget to always cleanse and remove make-up from the eyes, even if your client comes to the appointment without make-up, since the skin itself has oil. If we don't thoroughly remove the oil, dirt and make-up residue from the natural lash, the gels may not penetrate it properly and won't take effect.
We recommend using a special make-up remover for this type of service. These make-up removers are usually oil-free and gentle on the skin, since the eyelid skin is one of the thinnest on the body, and we don't want to irritate it.
Applying Primer is another mandatory step. After removing the oil, you must remove the water and dry the lash. To do this we will use the Primer with the help of micro brushes to thoroughly remove the water. The Primer is a product made with an alcohol base, so you must be very careful not to touch the skin.
With this step, the natural lashes would be completely prepared for the lifting products to penetrate correctly.
Mistake 2: Choosing the wrong size for the mould
There are many types of moulds on the market with different sizes.
Choosing the right mould for each type of lash is essential for the service result to be adequate. Eyelash lifting moulds can generally be found in 3 sizes: S, M and L. You must always measure the mould flush with the natural lashes before applying the glue. There is no universal size for all lashes, and it isn't always correct to choose size S to “lift” the lashes more.
The size will be adequate if the natural lash sits exactly at the middle of the mould. If the natural lash goes past the middle of the mould, the size will be too small. If, on the contrary, it doesn't reach the middle, the size will be too large.

Mistake 3: Not respecting each manufacturer's exposure time
Another very common mistake is generalising the exposure times of lifting products. Each product is different, nothing is universal. Before applying a product, you must find out its protocol and exposure times and follow it conscientiously so as not to burn or damage the natural lash.
There are products with accelerator that act in a very short time and traditional products that adapt to the thickness of the natural lash. Respect each time and ensure the health of your clients' natural lashes.
Mistake 4: Covering the lashes with osmotic film
In the past, only the lash perming technique existed, which achieved a very different effect from lifting (learn the difference between eyelash perming and lifting). Its products and protocol were different, so we can't follow the same steps with the lifting technique. Covering the lashes with cling film can be a serious problem since the only thing achieved with this step is speeding up the exposure time. This can end up burning the natural lash, so never cover lifting products with cling film.
Mistake 5: Removing the products with water
As we mentioned earlier, you must check the usage protocol for each product since they are all different. It's also important to explain to the client that they should avoid getting their lashes wet during the first 24 hours so that the hair pore closes correctly and the natural lash doesn't suffer or break.
