How to Do a Lash Lift Step by Step

Lash lifting is today an essential treatment in your beauty salon. It's a quick and relatively easy service to perform, but it's worth knowing each step in detail so the result is truly spectacular. The products needed for this service are strictly for professional use. There are different lash lift formats. At Seena Owell we offer two: the traditional lash lift and a new format that includes keratin, whose products act in less time. Regardless of which of the two you prefer, below we'll detail the basic steps for performing this service:

Lash preparation

We start by thoroughly cleaning and removing makeup from the lashes with an oil-free cleansing foam. This step is more important than it seems — it's essential that the lashes are free of makeup residue, dirt and oils so the lifting products work correctly. Next, we place a collagen patch right at the base of the lower eyelid lashes. The patch is placed mainly to isolate the lower lashes, but it also acts on the under-eye area, providing a cooling and hydrating effect thanks to its collagen and vitamin A and E content. We comb the lashes with a brush to get them ready and, before starting with the specific lifting products, at Seena Owell we recommend applying a Primer, which prepares the lashes and improves the effectiveness of the products. Finally, we select the silicone shield suited to our client's lashes. At Seena Owell we offer a wide variety of shields that allow us to adapt the curl to the length of the lash or our clients' preferences.

Lash lift step by step:

Glue

It's applied with its own applicator or, if unavailable, with a micro-brush or cotton swab, over the entire base of the back of the chosen shield. The shield is placed on the upper eyelid so that its edge lines up with the start of the lash roots. Next, glue is also spread over the front of the shield and the lashes are attached to it, from one side to the other. For a spectacular result, the lashes need to be left straight and even, and it's best to use a suitable tool to achieve this. We recommend the Magic Wand lash lift tool, which has an ergonomic shape: one end has a hook that helps remove tangles, and the other end has a flat surface used to lift the lashes.

Perming

The main function of this first product is to open the hair's pore so the main product can act from within. It's applied with a cotton swab to the central area of the lashes; the product should not touch the root or tip of the lash. Apply with an upward motion and let it act for the recommended time for each product. In the case of the Traditional lash lift, the exposure time for this first product will depend on the client's lashes, but here are some recommendations:

• Fine and/or tinted lashes: 10 minutes
• Healthy lashes: 12 minutes.
• Thick, healthy lashes: 15 minutes.

In the case of the Lamination Lift, the exposure time for this first product should not exceed 5 minutes from when application begins on the first eye. Once the stipulated time has passed, we remove all the product with a dry micro-brush or cotton swab. In this first step it's important to remember that osmotic film should never be used to speed up the process.

Setting

The second product is responsible for setting the hair into the shield's shape and closing the pore. It's also applied with a cotton swab to the central area of the lashes; the product should not touch the root or tip of the lash. The exposure times for the product would be:

• Traditional lash lift, the same exposure time chosen in step 1.
• Lamination Lift, the exposure time for this second product ranges between 7 and 10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the natural lash.

We also remove the second product, once the programmed time has passed, with a dry micro-brush or cotton swab. At this point, lash tinting would be applied if the client requests it. Since the lash has already undergone a chemical procedure, the pore is open, so the tint's exposure time would be 5 minutes.

Hydrating serum

The final step of the process is the hydrating serum, which cleans away any glue residue, nourishes the lashes and releases them from the shield. It's important to remember that water should not be used to remove the products and/or release the lashes from the shield, as this reduces the effectiveness of the treatment's components. The lashes come off the shield more easily with side-to-side movements. The product is also applied to the back of the shield to release it from the eyelid. Finally, we recommend using a keratin boost, which adds strength and shine to the lash as the final treatment of the service. It can be applied with a brush while combing the lashes. The collagen patch is removed from the lower eyelid, and our client is ready to show off a spectacular look.
