Manicure and Nail Art Trends Spring 2021

Tendencias en manicura y nail art Primavera 2021

Spring is almost here, and at Seena Owell we want to get ahead by showing you what the manicure and nail art trends will be for the coming season.

Pantone colours of the year: Illuminating and Ultimate Gray

At the start of each year, Pantone releases the trending colours for the whole year. This year they've selected a neon yellow called Illuminating, and a stone grey called Ultimate Gray.

Both shades can be used combined with each other or on their own. Create bold manicures by combining both tones, creating stripes and dots over a Nude base. Here's an example to inspire you. Plus, these colours will be available in our new spring 2021 collection.

Neon nails

If your clients love eye-catching manicures, you're going to love this tip. We all need neon tones at our salon, but we know that nail polishes sometimes never get fully used up, and we don't want them to spoil from lack of use. At Seena Owell we have Neon powders available that are applied directly over any shade of gel polish, at a super low price, which is great since you'll have access to many tones without needing lots of polishes. These powders can be used over the tacky layer to give a uniform colour to the whole nail, or they can also be applied to specific areas, for example to create a neon colour gradient. A style that's very trendy and very easy to achieve. We'll show you how.

Apply a base shade, for example white, and cure it in the lamp for just 30 seconds. Take your client's hand out of the lamp and apply the neon powder using a silicone brush. You can gradient it from the cuticle towards the tip or vice versa. Once you've achieved the desired effect, put your client's hand back in the lamp so the powder bonds with the tacky layer for at least 60 seconds. Repeat this step as many times as needed until you have the desired pigment intensity. To finish, apply Top coat and remember to seal all the nail edges very well so the manicure lasts at least 3 weeks. Below is an example from Pinterest to inspire you.

Matte top coat: Yes or no

The matte nails trend is increasingly taking over nail salons. It's a basic product every manicurist should have. This product can offer a lot of versatility in any manicure since it can also be combined with glossy top coat, creating different effects within a single colour.

Create a French manicure by combining glossy top coat and matte top coat: Choose a single colour and apply 3 thin coats for full coverage. Apply matte top coat and cure in the lamp for 60 seconds. Take your client's hands out and clean off the remaining tacky layer with alcohol. Create the French line with a thin brush and glossy top coat. Once you've designed all the nails, cure them in the lamp for at least 60 seconds. Clean the final tacky residue with cleaner and you'll have a finished, different manicure. Here's another example from Pinterest.

The reinvented French manicure

The French manicure is a trend that never goes out of style, but it's constantly being reinvented. This year it's very popular to create the line with products like foil, stickers, decorative stones and even gold leaf and silver leaf. At Seena Owell we recommend that, for a fine French manicure, the nails should have a short-medium length, very well groomed cuticles and a very natural base tone.

Below we explain how to create a French manicure with foil. Choose the base colour. At Seena Owell we recommend the shade Nude French, which gives a beige tone with medium coverage. Apply two thin coats and cure each coat for at least 60 seconds in the lamp. Take your client's hands out and create the French design with a special Foil Transfer Gel. This gel needs to be cured in the lamp. While the gel is curing, choose the foil shade you'll use for the French line. Metallic tones are very trendy! Once the gel is cured, take the foil paper and apply it with light dabs, pressing the area with transfer gel. You can repeat this step as many times as needed until your design turns out as expected. Below is an example from one of the most
famous manicurists in the world: Betina Goldstein.
