Lip Micropigmentation

Micropigmentación de labios

Lips are a very important part of the face, and for some time now it's become a necessity to have them looking perfect. Lip micropigmentation had its boom in the 80s-90s, but following the high demand for eyebrow microblading, it's become trendy again, and more and more people are choosing to touch up and change the colour of their lips.

What micropigmentation is and what it involves

Micropigmentation is an aesthetic technique used to beautify, correct or harmonise our client's facial or body features semi-permanently. With micropigmentation we introduce pigments at an epidermal level using one or several small needles.

Micropigmentation can be carried out on the face, such as on lips, eyebrows or eyeliner, but it can also be performed on the body, drawing an areola or nipple after a mastectomy, camouflaging scars, concealing small areas of alopecia, etc.

Difference between micropigmentation and tattooing

To properly carry out a micropigmentation service, we need to be clear on how it differs from tattooing. Here are some of the differences.

The most commonly performed service in the past was tattooing, but over the years it's been noted that both the colours and the final result would change over time. There have been cases of clients with very dark eyebrow colours or brows that turn greenish, lips with brown tones, or eyeliner that has changed colour and shifted towards greens or blues. These jobs are very hard to modify unless we recommend laser treatment to remove the previous pigments.

With tattooing, the trauma to the area is 10 times greater than with micropigmentation, making it far more invasive for the skin. When you do a tattoo, the level of pigment implantation is much deeper.

In micropigmentation, the pigments used are not as harsh; they're not inks, they're usually natural pigments.

Therefore, micropigmentation is gentler, less deep and, above all, less aggressive.

Advantages of lip micropigmentation

With lip micropigmentation, besides adding colour to the lips, you can modify their shape or correct small asymmetries the client may have in her lips.

You can achieve anything from a more natural change, giving the lip a subtle touch of colour, to fully outlining and completely changing the client's lip colour.

Years ago it was a treatment that caused quite a lot of pain; however, gels or creams with local anaesthetic actives have since been developed, with no health risk, which help numb the area so the service is painless and more comfortable for clients.

Another advantage of lip micropigmentation is that the changes are immediate; although the final result will be seen after a few days, results can already be appreciated at the end of the session.

As always with these treatments, we recommend taking a before-and-after photo of every service you perform and posting it on your social media; this way more people will get to know you and you'll be able to grow your clientele, since it's one of the most sought-after services on social media.

Different techniques for the lip micropigmentation service

As we usually recommend for many services, before performing the lip micropigmentation service you should carry out an allergy test on your client, so as to avoid possible problems in the future. It's also a good idea to talk with her and explain the different techniques you can perform, so the service is more personalised. Let's talk about three of the most commonly used techniques in lip micropigmentation:

Lip lining technique

This involves outlining the lip and filling in the entire mucosa with the chosen shade; it adds colour to the lip and the result is quite a bit more eye-catching.

The watercolour lips technique

This is the newest technique, leaving behind the old lining technique; it adds colour across the entire lip, creating a volumising effect with light and shadow.

Fuzzy technique

The outlining is done naturally; shades similar to the lip's original colour are chosen, and they don't look especially lined, just outlined, with the contour blended inward, as if painted on. A very natural-looking makeup effect is achieved.

With these techniques, asymmetries can be corrected and even a small lip can be enhanced or enlarged. This way we achieve overall lip beautification.

At Seena Owell we recommend always talking with your client and agreeing on the shades, since brown or aubergine tones should be avoided, as they contain a large amount of black in their composition, and the result may not be as desired.

It's important to always use approved pigments in single-dose format whenever you perform this service; on our website you'll find a wide variety of shades available.

Don't forget that for this service it's essential for your client to sign an informed consent form, in which you must clearly explain the treatment being performed, the contraindications and all the information required for this type of treatment.

Aftercare

We should always guide our client through the aftercare she needs to follow at home once the service is finished.

After a lip micropigmentation session, she should gently clean the area several times a day. Make-up shouldn't be applied, as it could infect the treated area. She should avoid sun exposure and saunas or similar.

The scab that appears after a few days shouldn't be touched or removed, since doing so would remove part of the pigment.

Remember that if you have any questions about the application and protocol of the products available on the Seena Owell website, you can contact us by phone, email, chat and WhatsApp. We'll be happy to help you.
