The lash lift has become one of the most popular treatments at beauty salons. Clients leave delighted with a treatment that, besides being non-invasive, enhances the natural beauty of their lashes. But as you know, to achieve lasting, satisfactory results, it's essential to recommend lash lift aftercare to clients for use at home, and this goes beyond just not getting the lashes wet.
In this article we detail what these steps are and why each one matters. We also give you some recommendations for lash care and treatment.
Care for the first 24 hours
During the first 24 hours after the treatment, it's essential not to get the lashes wet. Water can interfere with the products used during the procedure and affect their effectiveness. Clients should therefore avoid showering, swimming or any activity that exposes their lashes to water during those first hours.
It's also essential to avoid humid environments, steam and extreme heat. Hot baths, saunas and other high-humidity environments can affect the lift's duration and effect. Extreme heat can also weaken the lashes and cause them to fall out prematurely. Advise your client to keep their face away from intense heat sources such as ovens, hairdryers or radiators during these first 24 hours.
Rubbing the eyes can be tempting, especially if there's some discomfort or mild itching. However, it's best that clients avoid rubbing or scratching their eyes in the first hours after treatment, to keep the lashes in place and ensure the lash lift lasts as long as possible.
We know many clients are enthusiastic about mascara, but during these first 24 hours it's best they avoid it. After that, there's no problem using mascara, but as a general recommendation for lash care, it's best to avoid “waterproof” mascaras. These mascaras are difficult to remove and may require excessive rubbing that can damage the lashes.
Lash lift aftercare
It's important to point out that, for as long as the lift effect lasts, using an eyelash curler is not recommended. The lash lift treatment has already created a natural curve and lift, so using a curler isn't really necessary, and it can damage or even break the lashes. To maintain the lift's results, it's essential to refrain from using curlers during this time.
Cleansing the lashes should be part of the daily routine. It's advisable to use a specific lash cleanser that's oil-free.
Oil-based cleansers can interfere with the adhesives used during the lift, which could compromise the results. Explain to your client how to apply the cleanser: gently and with upward movements, following the natural curve of the lashes. If they can do it with a specific brush, even better. This will help maintain their shape and extend their lifespan.
We recommend this eyebrow and eyelash cleansing foam and this cleansing brush, which you can sell in your salon:
As beauty professionals, we should be concerned not only with the treatment itself, but also with looking after the health of your clients' lashes.
For clients looking for extra care and a boost for their lash health, we recommend using the Permania Keratin Lash Stimulator. This product, available here:
It's specifically designed to strengthen and nourish the lashes, promoting growth and preventing premature loss. If applied regularly, following the manufacturer's instructions, it can help maintain healthy, radiant lashes.
At Seena Owell we recommend offering an aftercare flyer to each client so they don't forget any of the steps at home. On our website we have one available that you can print out to give to each client. You'll find it in the downloads section for lash lift products. We've also included it here:
