Eyelash Extensions vs Lash Lift

Extensiones de pestañas vs Lifting de pestañas
Without a doubt, eyelash extensions have become the star service in any beauty salon. In recent years they've gained a large number of enthusiastic followers who wouldn't trade them for anything. However, there's another service that has grown rapidly, especially over the last two years, and has become the center of attention: the lash lift. A must-have in your beauty salon that everyone is talking about. At Seena Owell we're experts in products for both extensions and lash lifting, so we truly believe both services should be part of your beauty salon's menu. Both of these treatments are perfectly safe, maintain the health of the lashes, and are the perfect beauty complement, as long as they're performed by trained professionals following the correct procedures. It's important to know the pros and cons of each to advise and recommend in the best possible way to our clients.

Customized designs

The variety of extension types (materials, lengths, diameters, curls), as well as the different application methods (classic, volume, 3D…), styles and effects that eyelash extensions allow give them endless, customized possibilities suited to each client's style, taste or eye shape. Lash lifting, however, will improve the appearance of the natural lashes with different curl options, but doesn't allow for a customized design to enhance the eyes or facial features the way extensions do.

Service duration

One difference in favor of lifting is the service duration: while an eyelash extension service can take between one and two hours, depending on the type of extensions, style and condition of the natural lashes, a lash lift usually takes less than an hour.

The importance of natural lashes

Depending on the characteristics of the natural lashes, one treatment or the other will be more advisable. If our client wants thick, long, voluminous lashes and her natural lashes aren't like that, this change can only be achieved with extensions. If, on the other hand, she wants to enhance the appearance of her natural lashes, a lift combined with lash tinting will achieve that.

Result

Extensions are attached to the natural lashes and therefore follow their growth cycle, meaning they fall out as the natural lash grows. To maintain eyelash extensions, clients must follow the aftercare protocol and return for the necessary fills every 2 to 4 weeks. The effect of a lash lift lasts between 6 and 8 weeks depending on the condition of the natural lash.

Maintenance

Lifting requires no maintenance at all, another of its great advantages. However, we recommend applying a hydrating lash serum daily. Your clients can remove makeup with their usual products, which they'll find more convenient. On the other hand, to keep extensions perfect and make them last longer, it's important to follow a series of aftercare steps we've already mentioned in previous posts, such as: not rubbing the eyes, brushing them daily with a small lash brush, removing makeup carefully, and avoiding oil-based products.

Which treatment to choose?

Neither is better than the other. In the end, these are two different treatments. Ultimately, the service we choose should depend entirely on our client's lashes, her style expectations, the time she has, her willingness to maintain her lashes, and the price she's comfortable with. Generally, if she has barely any lashes or they're very short, extensions will give her the fullness and length she's looking for, and she'll have movie-star lashes for months. If, on the other hand, she has long lashes and just wants that 'infinite' effect, a lift is exactly what she needs. It will lengthen her lashes from the root, and the result will look completely natural.
